Day 36

Oct. 12, 2019

We found the new home of Techno Mermaid - 1000 Granby St. in Norfolk.

Sadly, we looked for Flight at 355 W. Freemason St. only to find the lot empty.  Upon a bit of research, we discovered there was a fire at the location a few years ago.  Her pole still stands there, but it is now empty.   Anyone know where she might be now?

**REVISED** Found a "new" mermaid at Nauticus today.  Meet the new Princess Azalea with her brand new look -  repaired by the staff at Nauticus (tip of the hat to Don Sippel) and repainted by artist Aimee Bruce.

Check out this video on her makeover:

News & Updates:
Kaleidoscope was taken down when the new sign at Norfolk Scope/Chrysler Hall went up. She is currently in storage, awaiting repair.

The mermaid that was temporarily at the Slover Library was a gift of the Norfolk Sister Cities to Kochi, India. If you go to the interactive mermaid map (which is constantly being updated), you can see a picture of her if you zoom out far enough to see the entire globe. https://www.norfolk.gov/1962/Mermaid-Interactive-Spotting-Map.

Techno mermaid is back in Norfolk - I will seek her out this weekend!  Check back soon for updates!

Also, want to check on Flight.  I have never been able to find her but I will try again this weekend.

And a new to me one as well - check back soon!

*Thanks to the Norfolk Arts Commission for these updates!

We FINALLY found Lady Anne in a roundabout in Colonial Cir.:

We found a new mermaid at CR Services - 2501 Lafayette Blvd.:

And, we finally found the Max & Irma's mermaid from MacArthur Mall.  She has been redone and is now inside the Office Furniture Outlet at 5595 Raby Rd.:

We also checked in with the Norfolk Karate Academy.  We had heard they might have a mermaid, but they said they did not.

Finally, Kaleidoscope at Norfolk Scope was not on her post today.  Perhaps she is being redone???

Day 30

July 9, 2015

Today we had the pleasure of meeting the wonderful people of Susan G. Komen Tidewater.  They invited us in to meet their two beautiful mermaids, Susie and Asha, both breast cancer awareness mermaids.  They were all so welcoming and kind and even had gift bags prepared for the boys!  To top off the visit, we got to meet the amazing Georgia Mason, the talented artist behind many of the Norfolk mermaids, including the two from today.  Georgia is as lovely as her mermaids and we thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to speak with her.  Thanks everyone!

"Susie" - Susie the traveling mermaid even has her own twitter page!
"Asha" - a smaller mermaid that also travels to raise awareness for breast cancer

Day 28

June 14, 2015

Ok, so this is not really a new mermaid sighting, but I had to share the coolest thing I received for my birthday - a mermaid necklace and earrings that look just like the Norfolk mermaids.  They can be found at Spertner Jewelers inside Mary Barnett's at 4122 Granby St., Norfolk 23504.  LOVE them!

Get ready for more mermaids, herons, and dolphins coming soon - summer vacation starts in 5 days!

Day 25

April 5, 2015

Found 2 official mermaids today and 1 unofficial.  Of the 2 official ones, 1 is a new look on an old mermaid - Princess Azalea has a new look!  I can also say that I am unable to find the mermaid Flight.  The Norfolk Website has her located at 355 W Freemason.  If you Google this address and do a street view, you can see her - but when you actually go there she is no longer there.  I guess this is an old satellite image - the company that was there is now gone and probably took her with them.  Here is what we did find:
